Short answer: the wedding gift for couple that keeps its value is gold or pure silver, bought by the gram. A 1-gram ring and a pair of silver glasses both qualify. Size matters less than metal and purity. Unlike a hamper, both can be exchanged later, so the couple can swap your gift for a design they'll wear. Below are 20 options sorted by who they suit, what they weigh and what they cost at 2026 prices.

Quick Pick Table: 20 Gifts by Metal, Weight and Giver

The best wedding gift for a couple in India is hallmarked gold or pure silver matched to your budget. Close family often give 22K gold, such as couple rings, a chain or a coin. Friends can give 1–2 grams of gold or a silver glass or bati set. Both keep exchange value, unlike hampers.

Gold Gifts the Couple Can Share

1. Gold couple rings in 22K or 18K

Couple rings are the one gold jewellery gift for bride and groom that both wear daily. That's why they suit a sibling or parent who wants to be remembered every morning. Keep each band plain or lightly textured. Heavy patterns snag on dupattas and kurta cuffs.

Ask for ring sizes quietly through a cousin. A wrong size is easy to fix, but only before the wedding. Couple gold rings price out by weight. At about ₹17,000 a gram all in, two 2-gram bands come to roughly ₹68,000.

Browse ladies' gold rings and gents' gold rings to pair them. Tight on budget? A 1-gram gold ring guide shows what a very light band looks like.

2. A unisex gold chain for either partner

A plain chain works for the bride or the groom. So it's a safe pick when you don't know the couple's taste. Box, rope and curb links hold up to daily wear better than fine fancy links.

Weight drives the price here. A chain under 10 grams covers most daily-wear lengths, as our gold chain under 10 grams guide explains. See the unisex gold chain collection for current weights.

3. Lakshmi or gini gold coin for elders to give

A gold coin wedding gift is the classic shagun, or blessing gift, from grandparents. It doesn't need a size or a style match. Our Lakshmi gold coin weighs 3.91 grams in 22K. A smaller 22K gini coin on the same site weighs 2.75 grams.

One honest trade-off: a coin sits in a locker. If you want the couple to wear your gift, pick a ring or chain instead.

Gold Gifts for the Bride, From Mangalsutra to Noa

4. Mangalsutra from the groom's side

The mangalsutra, the married woman's black-bead necklace, usually comes from the groom's family. Check with them before you buy one. Two mangalsutras from two families is an easy duplicate to make.

Our 22K gold mangalsutra price guide breaks down weight and cost. Shop the gold mangalsutra range.

5. Light gold earrings she'll wear after the wedding

Small tops get worn long after the reception lehenga goes back in the cupboard. Around 2 grams is enough for a visible, everyday pair. Screw-back tops are safer than push-backs for daily use.

See 2-gram gold earrings for daily use for design ideas.

6. A gold locket with room for a photo or initial

A locket feels personal without needing a size. Pair it with a chain she already owns, or add a thin one. Browse the gold locket collection.

7. Noa, the Bengali iron bangle bound in gold

For a Bengali wedding, the noa is the bangle a bride wears for life. It's an iron core wrapped in gold. It traditionally comes from the groom's family, often the mother-in-law. Customs vary, so confirm before you buy.

Read the gold noa design and price guide, then see the noa collection.

8. Sankha and pola with gold work

Sankha is the white conch-shell bangle. Pola is the red one, made of coral or lac. Brides wear both together, and gold-worked versions last longer than plain ones. See gold sankha designs and gold pola designs.

Gold Gifts for the Groom That Most Lists Skip

9. A gents gold ring for daily wear

Most gift lists stop at the bride. So a gift chosen just for him stands out. A gents ring in 18K handles knocks better than 22K, which matters if he works with his hands.

Browse gents' gold rings.

10. Punjabi kada for a statement gift

A kada is a solid round bangle for men. It's the heaviest gift in this list, so it usually comes from parents or in-laws. Our gents gold kada price guide covers weight bands. See the Punjabi kada collection.

11. Kabza bracelet for a flexible fit

A kabza bracelet has hinged links, so it sits easier than a solid kada. Measure his wrist with a thread first. Shop kabza bracelets.

12. Gents gold wristlet

A wristlet is a lighter chain-style bracelet. It suits a brother or close friend who wants gold without kada money. See gents' wristlets.

Silver Gifts That Don't Look "Less" Than Gold

Silver doesn't look cheap when it's heavy, pure and useful. Among silver gift items for marriage, utensils get the most use. Honestly, a silver thala gets used more than most gold gifts. It comes out for every puja, bhai phonta and first-rice ceremony.

13. Silver thala for the couple's first home

A thala is a flat silver plate. It's the biggest silver piece here, so it reads as a family gift. See the silver thala collection.

14. Silver bati, the bowl that pairs with a thala

A bati is a small silver bowl. Buy it with a thala, or alone if your budget is tighter. Shop silver bati.

15. A pair of silver glasses

Two matching glasses make a neat marriage gift for couple friends. They're also easy to split between two friends. See pure silver glasses.

16. Silver spoons for colleagues

Spoons suit an office group gift. Four people can chip in without anyone overspending. Shop silver spoons.

17. Silver pen for the groom

A silver pen is useful and a little unusual. It works well from the groom's colleagues. See the silver pen range.

18. Silver kada for the groom

A 925 sterling silver kada gives the look of a gold kada at a fraction of the cost. 925 means 92.5% pure silver. Browse silver kada.

19. Silver couple rings

Matching silver rings suit friends on a budget. Pick silver ladies' rings and silver gents' rings in the same finish. A silver mangalsutra is another light option for the bride.

20. Silver payal for the bride

Anklets get worn at home every day, so they don't sit unused. See silver anklets.

Wedding Gift for Couple by Budget and Gram Weight

Prices jumped hard this year. The World Gold Council's India Q2 2026 report says domestic gold prices were 59% higher year on year. The same report notes buyers moving to lighter, lower-carat pieces. It also names the Prime Minister's appeal to curb gold purchases as one factor that weighed on demand.

So a lightweight gold gift for a wedding isn't stingy. It matches how many buyers are shopping this year.

On 25 September 2026, our Kolkata rate board showed 22K gold at ₹14,470 a gram. 18K was ₹11,720 and 925 silver was ₹230 a gram. Rates change daily, so check today's gold rate before you shop.

Metal rate isn't the full bill. Making charges, the labour cost of crafting a piece, get added. Then 3% GST applies. For example, our 2.75-gram gini coin was listed at ₹47,772 on the same day. That works out to roughly ₹17,000 a gram all in. Run your own numbers on the gold price calculator.

Under ₹5,000: silver only

Gold doesn't fit here. One gram of 22K cost more than ₹14,000 on 25 September 2026. At ₹230 a gram, ₹5,000 buys under 21 grams of 925 silver before making charges. That covers silver spoons, a silver pen or light silver rings.

₹5,000 to ₹20,000: a silver set or one gram of gold

This tier opens up a pair of silver glasses, a bati or a silver kada. At the top end, a 1-gram 22K gold ring becomes possible. Gold under ₹20,000 means about one gram, so pick a plain design.

₹20,000 to ₹50,000: 1 to 3 grams of gold

At roughly ₹17,000 a gram all in, you're looking at 1 to 3 grams. Good fits are 2-gram earrings, a small locket or a light gini coin.

₹50,000 and above: 3 grams and heavier

Here come couple rings for both partners, a 4–6 gram chain or a Lakshmi coin. A 10-gram kada sits above ₹1.5 lakh at September 2026 rates. Silver thalas also land here if you pick a heavy one.

Who Gives What: Parents, In-Laws, Siblings, Friends

Traditional Indian wedding gifts follow the relationship more than the budget. There's no fixed rule, but some patterns help you avoid clashing.

Parents usually give the heaviest pieces. Think a chain, a kada for the groom, or a necklace for the bride. Our bridal jewellery guide covers the full set.

In-laws often give the pieces tied to ritual. In Bengali homes, that's frequently the noa, sometimes with sankha and pola. The groom's family also tends to handle the mangalsutra.

Siblings fit well with couple rings or a wristlet for the groom. These are personal and worn daily.

Friends do well with 1–2 grams of gold or a silver glass pair. Pooling money among four friends turns ₹5,000 each into a 1-gram gold gift.

Colleagues usually give silver spoons, a silver pen or a single silver glass.

On the bride's side, gifts traditionally lean toward the groom. A gents ring or kada from her family is a warm gesture. Also, send a quick message in the family WhatsApp group before buying. Three identical silver coins is a very real risk.

How to Check Gold and Silver Purity Before You Buy

A hallmark is the official purity stamp from BIS, the Bureau of Indian Standards. Hallmarked gold and silver both carry a HUID, a six-character code unique to each piece.

For gold, look for three marks: the BIS logo, the purity (for example 22K916) and the HUID. Enter the HUID in the BIS CARE app. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs explains what BIS CARE shows. That includes the jeweller's registration number, article type, hallmarking date and purity.

For silver, the rules changed on 1 September 2025. A hallmark now has three parts: the BIS mark with the word SILVER, the purity grade and a HUID. That's per the government's release on HUID-based silver hallmarking. Silver hallmarking is still voluntary, though. So a silver piece without a hallmark isn't illegal.

Here's the buyer tip nobody mentions. Old guides tell you to look for four marks on silver. That was the old 2014 system. Under the new standard, grades include 925 for sterling and 999 for fine silver. If a silver piece has a HUID, check it in BIS CARE just like gold.

Before you pay, do three things:

  1. Ask for the net weight on the bill, separate from any stones.

  2. Match the HUID on the piece to the one on the bill.

  3. Scan the HUID in BIS CARE while you're still at the counter.

For more detail, read our gold purity check before buying guide. The hallmark gold vs BIS gold explainer clears up a common mix-up.

Tarnishes, needs cleaning

Pick 22K for anything ritual, like noa, pola or a coin. Traditional pieces are usually bought in 22K.

Pick 18K for a groom's ring or anything worn hard every day. It was about 19% cheaper per gram than 22K on 25 September 2026. We sell 18K pieces too.

Pick silver when your budget sits under ₹20,000. Heavy, useful silver beats a thin gold gift for a wedding couple that nobody wears.

If the Design Doesn't Suit Them: How Exchange Works

Duplicate gifts and wrong designs happen at most weddings. Here's how we handle exchange and buyback value at Biswakarma.

The couple can exchange a gold or silver gift themselves. They don't need you there, the bill or the HUID. There's no time limit either.

On exchange, we deduct the stone weight, making charges and GST. The couple gets credit for the metal value toward another piece. Since we don't give cash refunds, tell them it's an exchange credit.

That's the real meaning of "lasts a lifetime". A plated gift or a hamper has no exchange value. A gold or pure silver wedding gift for a newly married couple does.

We also offer complimentary lifetime cleaning and polishing at our showroom. That helps silver in particular, since it tarnishes.
