A 925 silver chain for women costs about ₹1,550 to ₹3,650 for a plain chain weighing 2 to 5 grams. Those are Biswakarma's listed prices as of 6 October 2026, when our 925 silver rate was ₹225 per gram. Add a pendant or charm, and the same weight costs more. Every price has three parts: metal value by weight, a making charge and 3% GST.
This guide is for women buying for themselves, and for families buying for a girl. It shows the real weights behind our silver chain collection, so you can judge any price yourself. It also shows how to check a hallmarked chain's HUID on your phone before you pay.
What Does a 925 Silver Chain Cost Today?
Biswakarma's plain 925 silver chains cost ₹1,546 to ₹3,635 for 2.1 to 5 grams, as of 6 October 2026. Pendant and charm chains of a similar weight cost ₹2,134 to ₹5,091. Our lightest piece is a 1.71 g pendant chain at ₹1,618. Our heaviest plain chain weighs 29 g and costs ₹19,783.
Treat any silver price older than a few weeks as stale. Silver crossed US$100 an ounce for the first time in January 2026, says the Silver Institute's 2026 outlook. The same outlook expected global silver jewellery demand to fall by over 9% in 2026, with India leading the drop. So check our daily gold and silver rate board on the day you buy.
We don't list any silver chain under ₹1,000. At ₹225 per gram, ₹599 buys only 2.66 g of 925 metal, before any making charge or GST. So a genuine ₹599 chain would have to be very light. Ask the seller for the net weight in writing.
Under ₹2,000, you'll find our plain chains of 2.1 to 2.3 g. The 2.12 g S/4/24 Sleek Silver Line Chain costs ₹1,546, and the 2.29 g S/4/63 Fine Silver Chain costs ₹1,657. Both prices are as of 6 October 2026.
How Is a Silver Chain's Price Calculated?
A silver chain's price is its net weight times the 925 silver rate, plus the making charge, plus 3% GST.
Price = (net weight × 925 rate per gram) + making charge + 3% GST
Some shops quote the fine silver rate, meaning 99.9% pure silver. Multiply it by 0.925 to get the 925 rate. For example, a fine rate of ₹243 per gram works out to about ₹225 per gram for 925.
Here's the real price breakup of our S/4/63 Fine Silver Chain, as of 6 October 2026.
Part of the price | Amount |
|---|---|
Net weight | 2.29 g |
Metal value (about ₹223 per gram of 925) | ₹511 |
Making charge | ₹1,098 |
Subtotal | ₹1,609 |
GST at 3% | ₹48 |
Final price | ₹1,657 |
On a chain this light, the making charge is about twice the metal value. Turning 2 grams of silver into fine, even links takes the same skilled work as a heavier chain. So per gram, light chains cost more.
GST on jewellery is 3%. Sources disagree on whether a separately billed making charge attracts a different rate. Our invoices apply 3% to the metal value and making charge together, so check your own invoice line by line.
A 10 to 11 gram 925 silver chain costs about ₹7,900 at Biswakarma, as of 6 October 2026. The metal alone in 10 g comes to ₹2,250 at ₹225 per gram. Our 10.79 g S/4/33 Silver Cut Chain costs ₹7,877, and the 10.97 g S/4/36 Silver Bold Chain costs ₹7,937.
Silver Chain Prices by Weight at Biswakarma
These price bands come from all 105 silver chains we list, as of 6 October 2026.
Weight | Style | Price range |
|---|---|---|
Under 2 g | Pendant chain | ₹1,618 |
2 to 3 g | Plain chain | ₹1,546 to ₹2,102 |
3 to 5 g | Plain chain | ₹2,257 to ₹3,635 |
About 6 g | Plain chain | ₹3,313 |
2 to 5 g | Pendant or charm chain | ₹2,134 to ₹5,091 |
5 to 7 g | Pendant or charm chain | ₹4,125 to ₹6,607 |
10 to 11 g | Plain chain | ₹7,877 to ₹7,937 |
16 to 29 g | Plain chain | ₹12,242 to ₹19,783 |
Pendant chains cost more per gram than plain ones. Compare our 2.88 g plain box chain at ₹2,102 with a 3.05 g charm chain at ₹2,886. The difference sits in the making charge, which covers the pendant work and any stones.
Gross weight includes any stones, while net weight is the silver alone. Always price the metal on net weight.
Silver Chain for Women: Latest 925 Designs
All prices in this section are as of 6 October 2026. Most silver chain designs for ladies use five link styles: snake, box, rope, bead or link, and charm. For a thin silver chain for women's daily wear, a 3 to 4 g box or snake chain works best. Chains are made in 925 because fine 999 silver is soft. Our 925 vs pure silver guide explains the difference.
Snake Chain: Smooth and Pendant-Friendly
A snake chain is a smooth, flexible tube of tightly joined plates. It lies flat, slides through most pendant loops and suits office wear. The trade-off is that a sharp bend can kink it, and a kink is hard to fix.
Our lightest is the 2.13 g S/4/23 Silver Flow Chain at ₹1,555. The 3.51 g S/4/156 Smooth Silver Chain costs ₹2,392.
Box Chain: The Strongest Everyday Pick
A box chain is built from small square links joined edge to edge. It holds a pendant without twisting and handles daily knocks well. For a first chain, get a box chain.
We list the 2.88 g S/4/11 Silver Clean Line Chain at ₹2,102. The heavier 4.85 g S/4/14 Silver Cut Flow Chain costs ₹3,541.
Rope Chain: Texture Without a Pendant
A rope chain twists its links into a spiral, so it catches light on its own. Wear it alone, because the texture competes with a small pendant. Our rope chains run from 2.12 g at ₹1,546 to 4.07 g at ₹2,971.
Bead, Cable and Link Chains
Bead chains string small silver balls together, while cable and link chains use plain round or oval rings. Singapore and curb chains are twisted or flattened versions of the same idea. Cable and link styles are the easiest to repair, since a jeweller can replace one broken link.
Our 2.77 g S/4/20 Silver Clean Curve bead chain costs ₹2,004.
Charm Chains: Evil Eye, Heart and Teardrop
Charm chains come with a pendant already fitted, such as an evil eye, heart or teardrop. They're the easiest gift because nothing needs matching. However, the coloured parts are stones or enamel, which can chip under rough wear.
Chain | Net weight | Price |
|---|---|---|
4.33 g | ₹3,241 | |
4.42 g | ₹3,608 | |
4.64 g | ₹3,698 | |
4.65 g | ₹3,706 | |
4.71 g | ₹3,788 | |
6.08 g | ₹5,030 |
Silver Chains for Girls: Length, Weight and Clasp Tips
For a girl under 12, choose a 14 to 16 inch, 3 to 5 gram chain with a lobster clasp. Skip the thinnest 2 g styles. A slightly heavier box chain survives school bags and PE class far better.
A lobster clasp has a small lever that's easy to open with a thumbnail. It rarely opens by accident. A spring ring clasp is smaller and fiddly for young fingers.
Ask her to take the chain off for sleep, sports and swimming. Our kids silver bangle safety guide covers the same safety rules for bangles and anklets.
Teens and college students can wear adult lengths of 16 or 18 inches. For a birthday gift, a charm chain like the pink heart above needs no extra pendant. Which Silver Chain Holds a Pendant Best?
A box chain holds a pendant best, with a snake chain a close second. In a snake vs box chain choice for a pendant, snake looks smoother but kinks more easily under weight.
Check the pendant's bail before you buy. The bail is the loop a pendant hangs from. It must slide over the chain's clasp, or a jeweller will need to thread it on.
A simple rule: if the pendant weighs more than the chain, choose a heavier chain. A ready-matched silver locket chain for women skips the guesswork. Browse our silver locket chains, such as the 4.65 g S/4/138 Silver Locket Chain. It costs ₹3,653 as of 6 October 2026. Or pick a pendant separately from our silver lockets.
How Can You Check a Silver Chain Is Real 925?
The surest check is the HUID on a BIS-hallmarked chain, which you can verify free in the BIS Care app. HUID stands for Hallmarking Unique Identification, a code given to each hallmarked piece.
Silver hallmarking in India is still voluntary as of this writing. The PIB release on HUID-based silver hallmarking sets out the revised standard, IS 2112:2025. Under it, a silver hallmark has three parts: the BIS mark with SILVER, the purity grade and the HUID. The standard allows seven grades: 800, 835, 925, 958, 970, 990 and 999. The old 900 grade was dropped.
News reports in September 2026 said silver hallmarking could become mandatory from October 2026. We couldn't find an official order confirming it.
Verify the HUID on BIS Care in 60 Seconds
Install the free BIS Care app from the Play Store or App Store.
Open the Verify HUID feature in the BIS Care app.
Type in the six-character code from the clasp, tag or chain end.
Check the article type, purity grade, hallmarking date, testing centre and jeweller's registration number.
Match the jeweller's details to your bill. If nothing shows up, ask before you pay.
These details show only for silver hallmarked after 1 September 2025. Buying gold as well? Our gold purity check checklist uses the same HUID steps.
Home Checks When There's No HUID
Look for a "925" stamp, usually on the clasp or a small tag. It's a start, but stamps can be faked.
Try a fridge magnet. Silver isn't magnetic, so a strong pull means steel or iron inside. No pull proves nothing, though, because brass and copper aren't magnetic either.
Watch how it darkens. Real silver tarnishes slowly from yellow-brown to black, and that alone doesn't mean it's fake. Plated brass wears through to a yellowish or coppery base, often near the clasp. A green mark on your skin points to copper or brass.
For certainty without a HUID, ask a jeweller to test it on an XRF machine. It reads the metal content without damaging the chain.
What Length of Silver Chain Should You Choose?
The best length for a silver chain for women is usually 18 inches, while girls suit 14 to 16 inches.
Length | Where it sits | Best for |
|---|---|---|
14 inches | High on the neck | Young girls, choker look |
16 inches | At the collarbone | Teens, slim pendants, open necklines |
18 inches | Just below the collarbone | Most women, everyday pendants |
20 inches | Upper chest | High necklines, kurtas, larger lockets |
A pendant drops the look by its own height. If you're unsure, measure a chain you already own from end to end.
How Do You Stop a Silver Chain Turning Black?
A 925 silver chain turns black because silver reacts with sulphur in air, sweat and some cosmetics. That darkening is normal.
Yes, 925 silver is good for daily use, if you look after it. Take it off for showers, swimming, cooking and sleep. Put on perfume and lotion before the chain, not after.
To clean a black silver chain at home:
Soak it for a few minutes in lukewarm water with a drop of mild dish soap.
Rub gently with a soft cloth, then rinse and dry.
For heavier tarnish, line a bowl with aluminium foil and add hot water and a spoon of baking soda.
Dip the chain for a few minutes, then rinse and dry.
Skip steps 3 and 4 for chains with stones, enamel or a deliberately darkened finish. That finish is oxidised silver, which our oxidised 925 silver necklace set guide covers. Avoid toothpaste too, since it scratches.
Store each chain in its own airtight pouch with an anti-tarnish strip. Some chains are rhodium plated, a thin protective metal layer that slows tarnish but wears off. We also offer complimentary lifetime cleaning and polishing at our showroom.
