Why Two Kadas of the Same Weight Cost Different Amounts

Two kadas of almost the same weight can differ by ₹5,000 or more because making charges change, not metal. The silver inside costs roughly the same. Here are two real pairs from our range.

The Edge carries 3.22 g more silver, about ₹715 of metal. The price gap is ₹9,189.

So what drives making? Pattern work and finishing take hand time. Textured edges, carved lines and two-tone areas need more of it than a single polished band. On our pages, making works out to about ₹158 per gram on the Curve and Dotline. It's about ₹211 per gram on the Shine and ₹375 to ₹380 on the other eight.

Here's the blunt takeaway. If you want the most silver for your money, the Curve and Dotline win at ₹391 per gram. If a specific pattern matters more, you're paying for the work, and that's a fair trade.

You can run this check anywhere. Multiply net weight by the day's 925 rate. Anything above that number is making and GST. Ask for the split on the bill.

What Weight of Silver Kada Should You Choose?

For most men, 25 to 30 g is the easiest all-round weight for daily wear. That's guidance, not a rule.

Under 25 g: office wear and first kadas

Under 25 g is plenty for office wear. It slides under a shirt cuff and won't knock hard on a laptop edge. The Silver Textured Kada (22.85 g) and Silver Weave Kada (24.21 g) sit here.

25 to 30 g: daily wear you'll notice

This range gives you a kada that feels solid without tiring the wrist. The Dotline (26.04 g), Shine (29.00 g), Polished (29.49 g) and Glow (29.70 g) fall here.

Over 30 g: weddings, festivals and heavy silver kadas

Above 30 g, a kada reads clearly from across a room. Five of ours sit between 30.16 g and 34.68 g. Want a 30 gram silver kada? The Smooth Line (30.16 g) costs ₹18,551, while the Shine (29.00 g) costs ₹12,935.

We don't currently stock a heavy silver kada for men above 35 g.

20 g vs 30 g silver kada: which is better?

A 20 g kada suits slim wrists and all-day desk work. A 30 g kada suits broader wrists and men who want it seen. The metal difference is small. At ₹222 per gram, 10 g of 925 silver costs about ₹2,220. Making charges will move the final price far more than those 10 grams.

Latest Silver Kada Designs and Finishes for 2026

Our current silver kada designs for men fall into three groups: polished bands, line patterns and cut textures.

Silver kada designs in our current range

  • Plain and polished: the Silver Polished Kada, Shine, Glow and Smooth Line. A plain silver kada for men shows scratches sooner, but it's also the easiest to re-polish.

  • Line patterns: the Silver Dotline Kada and Silver Dual Line Kada. Dotted rows break up the shine, so light scratches hide well.

  • Cut textures: the Weave, Textured, Silver Carved Kada, Curve and Edge. These catch light at angles. Their grooves also collect dirt and darken first.

Polished, matte, oxidised or two-tone finish?

A polished finish gives the brightest look. Matte hides hairline scratches better. Oxidised silver is deliberately darkened in the recesses, so patterns stand out.

Oxidised vs polished comes down to upkeep. A polished kada needs a polishing cloth now and then. An oxidised one must never be fully polished, or you'll strip the dark effect. Two of our kadas, the Textured and Dual Line, carry a two-tone finish.

We don't stock a matte or oxidised kada right now.

How to Measure Your Hand for a Closed Kada

A closed kada has to pass over the widest part of your hand, so measure your hand, not your wrist. A kada that fits your wrist perfectly may not clear your knuckles.

Step-by-step: find your minimum inner diameter

  1. Tuck your thumb across your palm towards your little finger. Hold your fingers together, as if slipping on a bangle.

  2. Wrap a soft measuring tape or a thread around the widest part. That's usually across the knuckles and the thumb joint.

  3. Keep it snug but not tight. Note the length in centimetres.

  4. Divide that number by 3.14. The result is the smallest inner diameter that will pass over your hand.

  5. Pick a kada whose inner diameter is equal to or just above that figure.

Say your squeezed hand measures 21 cm. Divide by 3.14 and you get 6.69 cm, or about 67 mm. A closed kada smaller than 67 mm inside won't go on.

Already own a kada or bangle that fits? Measure its inside edge to edge, across the widest point. Our guide to measuring bangle size at home shows the method with a chart.

Closed vs openable kada: which suits you?

A closed kada is stronger and looks seamless. An openable silver kada for men, hinged or C-shaped, goes on from the side instead.

Here's the trade-off that catches people out. If your hand is much wider than your wrist, a closed kada that clears your knuckles will hang loose. It will slide down and clank against desks. An openable kada can sit closer to the wrist.

Choose openable if your knuckles are large for your wrist. It also makes sense if you're buying for someone you can't measure.

925 vs 999 Silver: Which Is Better for a Kada?

For a kada worn often, 925 silver is the better choice because it's harder than 999. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver. The other 7.5% is usually copper, which adds strength.

999 fine silver is 99.9% pure and noticeably soft. A 999 kada dents more easily and can bend slightly out of round. Fine patterns also wear down faster. It suits a plain kada kept for occasions.

Price-wise, the gap is smaller than people think. At the rate our pages used, 925 metal costs ₹222 per gram and 999 costs ₹240. On a 30 g kada, that's about ₹540 more for 999. All eleven of our kadas are 925. Our 925 vs pure silver guide and metal purity guide go deeper.

Is a Silver Kada the Same as a Sikh Kara?

No. A silver fashion kada is jewellery, while the Sikh kara is an article of faith.

The RE:ONLINE Sikhi glossary defines the kara as a steel bangle. It lists "kada" as another spelling. It also names the kara as one of the five Ks, representing God's infinite and eternal presence.

So "Punjabi silver kada" is a jewellery style name, not a religious object. Our Punjabi kada collection is sold as jewellery in that sense. If you wear a kara for faith, follow the guidance of your own community.

How to Check if a Silver Kada Is Real Silver

The surest check is a BIS hallmark with a six-digit HUID that you can verify on the BIS CARE app. Without a hallmark, rely on a written bill and a sensible price.

Hallmark, HUID and the BIS CARE app

A hallmarked silver piece carries the BIS Standard Mark, the word SILVER, the purity grade and a six-digit HUID. Enter that code in the BIS CARE app to see the purity and article type. Vikaspedia's page on silver hallmarking explains each mark and the app check.

Silver hallmarking in India is still voluntary. Since 1 September 2025, any silver piece that is hallmarked must carry a HUID. In June 2026, the BIS Director General said BIS is studying how to make silver hallmarking mandatory, gradually.

What does that mean for you? An unhallmarked kada isn't automatically fake. A "925" stamp alone, though, is only the seller's own claim. It is not a BIS hallmark.

Price red flags

Real 925 silver has a floor price. At ₹222 per gram, a 30 g kada holds about ₹6,660 of metal alone. If a "925" kada of that weight costs less than the metal, something is off. Check the net weight on the bill too.

German silver and plated kadas

German silver, also called nickel silver, contains no silver at all. The US General Services Administration describes nickel silver as a copper, nickel and zinc alloy. It holds 5 to 30 percent nickel. People with a nickel allergy may react to it.

Plated kadas have a thin silver skin over brass or copper. The coating wears at the edges, and a yellow or pink metal shows through. A magnet helps a little: silver isn't magnetic, so a strong pull means steel inside. Passing that test doesn't prove it's silver, though.

Can You Wear a Silver Kada Every Day?

Yes, a 925 silver kada can be worn every day, with a few habits. Take it off for the gym, swimming and harsh chemicals.

Does a silver kada turn black?

Yes, silver kadas darken over time. Silver reacts with sulphur compounds in air and sweat, forming a dark film. Humid weather, perfume and rubber speed it up. Daily friction rubs the raised parts, so grooves usually darken first. No silver kada stays shiny forever without cleaning.

Shower, gym and skin

A daily shower won't harm 925 silver, but soap leaves a dull film. Dry the kada afterwards. Remove it before a chlorinated pool or the sea.

At the gym, take it off. A rigid kada pressed against a barbell can bruise your wrist and dent the silver.

Some men see a faint dark or green mark on the skin. That usually comes from sweat reacting with the alloy. If you get itching or a rash, stop wearing it and see a dermatologist.

Gifting a Silver Kada for Bhai Phonta and Birthdays

A silver kada makes a strong gift for a brother or husband if you get the size right. For Bhai Phonta, birthdays and weddings, size matters more than design.

Borrow a kada or bangle he already wears and measure its inside diameter. If you can't, choose an openable design.

Budget around ₹15,000? Four of ours fit: the Dotline (₹10,182), Curve (₹12,301), Shine (₹12,935) and Textured (₹14,159). For a wedding, a kada over 30 g looks more substantial.

If the size is wrong, the recipient can exchange the kada without you there. No bill or HUID is needed, and there's no time limit. Making charges and GST are deducted, so the exchange value is the silver itself. A design-heavy kada keeps less value on exchange than a plain one. The full terms are on our customer FAQ page.

How to Clean a Tarnished or Oxidised Silver Kada

Clean a polished kada with a silver polishing cloth, and clean an oxidised one with mild soap and water only.

For a polished kada with light tarnish, rub gently with a polishing cloth. For heavier dulling, soak it for a few minutes in lukewarm water with a few drops of mild dish soap. Scrub the grooves with a soft toothbrush. Then rinse and dry it fully.

Skip toothpaste and baking soda scrubs. Both are abrasive and leave fine scratches on a polished surface.

For an oxidised or two-tone kada, use only the soap-and-water method. Polishing cloths and silver dips remove the dark finish you paid for.

Store it in a small zip pouch, away from other jewellery. Less air means slower tarnish.

Choosing Your Kada in Three Steps

Pick a weight band first. Then measure your squeezed hand and check the inner diameter clears it. Finally, compare net weight × ₹222 with the tag to see what you're paying in making.
