For a ring for men you'll wear daily, 18K gold is the safer pick because it resists dents. Choose 22K for a plain band you'll treat gently. Go with 925 silver if your budget is under ₹5,000. Whatever you pick, insist on a BIS hallmark and a bill that splits metal, making charges and GST.

Below, you'll see that price math worked out at the Kolkata rate. You'll also get a counter-side hallmark check and a way to measure your size at home.

Gold, Silver or Diamond: Which Ring for Men Suits You

The best ring for men for daily wear is usually a hallmarked 18K gold band. Aim for 3 to 6 grams. 18K gold is 75% gold, so it holds its shape better than softer 22K. A 925 silver ring suits casual wear on a small budget. Diamond rings suit weddings and occasions more than rough daily use.

Here's how the metals compare on the Biswakarma rate board updated on 23 September 2026. Rates change daily, so check the live gold and silver rate in Kolkata before you compare bills.

Gold Rings for Men: 22K, 18K or 14K

Pure gold is soft. The alloy metals mixed in decide how well a ring survives your day.

22K has the richest colour and the most gold per gram. But a 22K band worn to the gym or gripping a bike handle will pick up dents. So skip 22K if you plan to stack rings or wear one daily for years. Keep it for a wedding band or a traditional piece.

18K is where most men should start. It's harder, holds stones firmly, and still looks clearly gold. For a gold ring for men that faces daily life, this is our default advice.

14K is the toughest of the three. On the 23 September 2026 rate board, though, it cost only about 9% less per gram than 18K. That gap is small, so 14K makes sense mainly if you want maximum toughness.

BIS also added 9K gold (375, meaning 37.5% gold) to its hallmarking grades in July 2025. It's cheaper again, with far less gold. Buy it for looks, not for gold content.

Silver Rings for Men: The Cheapest Way to Start

A silver ring for men lets you find out if you enjoy wearing a ring before spending on gold. At ₹233 per gram, an 8-gram ring holds under ₹2,000 of metal.

Silver rings are usually made chunkier than gold, so weight runs higher. The trade-off is tarnish. Sweat, perfume and humid Kolkata summers darken silver over months.

Oxidised silver (deliberately darkened silver) turns that into a style. The dark finish sits in the grooves, while raised edges polish up with wear. It looks good on textured bands and bold casual rings for men. Don't choose it if you want a bright, mirror finish.

Diamond Rings for Men: When the Extra Cost Makes Sense

A diamond ring for men is worth it when the ring marks an occasion. Think engagement, wedding or a milestone gift. For daily wear with heavy hand use, a plain band is the more practical buy.

Diamonds are usually set in 18K gold, since softer 22K grips stones less securely. For any ring for men with a stone setting, check the setting before the stone. A bezel setting (metal rim around the stone) protects better than raised prongs.

Your bill should list the diamond weight in carats and its quality details. Ask for them in writing before you pay. Prices depend heavily on those details, so compare like with like.

Latest Ring Designs for Men in 2026

Men now buy rings well beyond weddings. The India Brand Equity Foundation reported that India's men's jewellery market grew 25–30% in 2025. IBEF puts men's jewellery at 15% of India's total jewellery market.

That shift shows up in the men's ring designs below. Pick by where you'll wear the ring, not by what's trending hardest.

Plain Bands and Minimalist Rings for Office Wear

A ring for men for office wear should sit flat and quiet. A band of 3 to 5 mm width works well. Brushed or matte finishes hide the small scratches that desks and laptops leave.

A plain gold ring for men also stacks easily later. Add a second slim band on another finger when you want more.

Signet Rings and Name Engraving

A signet ring for men has a flat face on top. Traditionally that face carried a family crest. Today most men engrave initials or leave it plain.

Signet rings are heavier than bands, so budget for more metal. If you want your name engraved, ask for it inside the band. Make sure the engraving doesn't cover the hallmark stamped there.

Engraved rings are personal, so check the exchange rules first.

Casual and Statement Rings for College and Weekends

Casual rings for men for college can be bolder. Textured, hammered or geometric bands look good in silver and cost far less. Wear one statement ring alone, or pair a textured ring with a slim band.

Keep one metal colour across your hand. Mixing yellow gold with silver on the same hand rarely looks planned.

For younger buyers, our gold ring designs for boys post has lighter options. A gold thumb ring is another choice if you want something less common. For a nature-inspired statement piece, see our caterpillar ring meaning and design guide.

Wedding Rings for Men

A wedding ring for men gets worn for decades. Choose 18K for a daily wedding band, or 22K if you'll wear it mainly at family events.

Diamond-set wedding bands look festive, but check the stones sit flush with the metal. Raised stones snag on clothes and loosen faster.

Gold Ring Price for Men at Today's Kolkata Rate

A gold ring for men in India costs its gold weight times the day's rate. Add making charges and GST on top. At the Kolkata 22K rate of ₹14,560 per gram, a 4-gram band holds ₹58,240 of gold alone.

The Price Formula Your Bill Should Follow

Every gold jewellery bill should show these lines separately:

  1. Metal value: net gold weight × the day's rate for that purity.

  2. Making charges: the jeweller's labour fee, quoted per gram or as a percentage.

  3. Stone value: only if the ring has stones, listed separately from gold weight.

  4. GST: most jewellers bill 3% on metal plus making. Some bills show making taxed separately at 5% but at Biswakarma Jewellery Shilpalaya it is flat 3% GST.

Making charges vary by design, so ask for the exact figure on each ring. A plain band usually needs less labour than a detailed signet. Stone weight should never be counted as gold weight.

The 18K band saves about ₹12,700 here. It also survives daily wear better. That's why we point most first-time buyers to 18K.

How Many Grams a Daily-Wear Ring Should Weigh

For most men, 3 to 6 grams makes a comfortable daily band. Below 3 grams, a gold band can feel thin and bend more easily. Above 8 grams, it starts to feel heavy on the finger.

A ring for men under 5 grams keeps the metal value below about ₹73,000 at the 22K rate. In 18K, 5 grams comes to ₹59,000 of metal.

BIS Hallmark and HUID Checks Before You Pay

A hallmark is the official purity stamp. On gold jewellery sold since 1 July 2021, it has three parts, per the Bureau of Indian Standards hallmarking FAQ:

  • the BIS logo, a triangle

  • the purity, such as 22K916 or 18K750

  • a HUID, a six-character code unique to that piece

What the Hallmark on a Men's Ring Should Show

On a ring, the hallmark usually sits inside the band. The marks are tiny, so ask to see them under magnification. The BIS FAQ says registered jewellers must keep a magnifying glass of at least 10x for this.

Next, open the BIS Care app and use "Verify HUID". Type in the code from the ring. The result should match the purity and article type you're buying.

Finally, check the bill. BIS says the invoice should carry details of the hallmarked article. Keep it safe for any future complaint or exchange.

Our explainer on hallmark gold vs BIS gold covers what to do if a HUID doesn't verify.

The Under-2-Gram Exception Few Buyers Know

Mandatory hallmarking has exemptions. The BIS guidance for jewellers exempts any article weighing less than 2 grams. So a very light ring can legally be sold without a hallmark.

That matters if you're shopping for lightweight rings for men for daily use. Under 2 grams, ask whether the piece is hallmarked anyway. If it isn't, get the karat written on the bill.

Biswakarma's metal guide states that all its jewellery is BIS hallmarked. Still, check the stamp on the exact ring you buy. That habit protects you in any shop.

Silver Hallmarking in 2026: Still Voluntary

Silver hallmarking is not mandatory. Since 1 September 2025, though, any hallmarked silver must carry a HUID too. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs announcement via PIB lists seven silver grades, including 925.

For a silver ring, a hallmark with HUID is a good sign but not a legal requirement. Ask for the silver grade on the bill either way.

How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

You can measure your ring size at home with a strip of paper and a ruler. Measure in the evening, when fingers are slightly larger. Cold mornings shrink fingers and give you a size too small.

  1. Cut a thin paper strip, about 5 mm wide.

  2. Wrap it around the base of the finger you'll wear the ring on.

  3. Mark where the paper overlaps. It should be snug but slide over your knuckle.

  4. Lay the strip flat and measure to the mark in millimetres. That's your finger's circumference.

  5. Repeat twice more and use the largest reading.

Measuring ring size at home with a paper strip around the finger

Thread works too, but it stretches, so paper gives a steadier reading. If you already own a ring that fits, measure its inside diameter instead.

Indian ring sizes map to inner circumference. Share your millimetre reading with the jeweller and ask them to convert it.

Wide bands fit tighter than slim ones. For a band wider than about 6 mm, consider going half a size up.

Buying Without Trying the Ring On First

A plain gold or silver band can usually be resized later by a small amount. Rings with stones all the way round are harder to resize, and some can't be. So measure carefully before ordering a stone-set ring.

Before you order, ask the showroom two things. Can this ring be resized, and does resizing cost extra? but at Biswakarma Jewellery Shilpalaya it is free to resize.

Which Finger and Hand to Wear a Ring On in India

In India, no rule fixes which finger a man must wear a ring on. The ring finger, next to the little finger, is the usual choice for engagement and wedding rings. Which hand you use depends on your family and community custom.

For style, you're free to choose. A signet ring looks natural on the little finger. A statement ring draws attention on the index or middle finger. Thumb rings suit bold, wider designs.

Wearing a ring on your right hand is completely normal in India. Many men pick their less dominant hand, simply because the ring takes fewer knocks there.

If you're pairing a ring with a kada, balance the weight across both hands. Our gents kada gold price guide helps you budget for both.

How to Choose a Ring for Men Before You Pay

Run these checks on any ring, in any shop:

  • Purity: 18K for daily wear, 22K for gentle wear, 925 for silver.

  • Weight: 3 to 6 grams for a daily gold band.

  • Hallmark: BIS logo, purity and HUID, verified in the BIS Care app.

  • Bill: metal, making charges, stones and GST shown as separate lines.

  • Size: measured in the evening, with resizing rules confirmed.
