A gold ring for women in 22K costs about ₹48,900 at 3 grams, using a ₹14,100 per gram rate. At 2 grams it drops to roughly ₹32,600. Weight drives the price far more than design does, so decide your grams first. Below you'll find the full maths and the designs worth buying at each weight. You'll also learn to check a ring's hallmark before you pay.

What a gold ring for women costs in 2026

A 22K gold ring for women costs its weight times the gold rate. Add making charges, a hallmarking fee and 3% GST. At an example rate of ₹14,100 per gram and 12% making charges, a 2 g ring costs about ₹32,600. A 3 g ring costs about ₹48,900, and a 4 g ring about ₹65,100.

Treat those numbers as a worked example, not a quote. The gold rate moves every day. So before you shop, check today's figure on our gold price calculator and redo the sum.

Why ₹75? The BIS (Hallmarking) Amendment Regulations 2026 raised the jeweller's fee per gold article from ₹45. It applies from 14 September 2026.

The gold itself is about 87% of that bill. Labour, the hallmark and tax make up the rest. That's why two rings with the same look can differ by thousands. One simply carries more metal.

The 3% GST figure is the rate widely published for gold jewellery sold as a finished piece.

Price by weight: 2 g to 6 g in 22K and 18K

Same example rules as above. The 18K rows use an example rate of ₹11,550 per gram.

Notice the gap. At 4 g, choosing 18K saves you close to ₹12,000. Still, you also get less gold, and that matters when you exchange the ring later.

Can you get a gold ring under ₹5,000?

Not in solid 22K or 18K gold at 2026 rates. At ₹14,100 per gram, ₹5,000 buys about a third of a gram before any charges. No wearable solid ring weighs that little.

So a "gold ring under ₹5,000" is almost always gold-plated. That can be a fine choice if you know what you're buying. For example, our silver ladies' rings give you a real precious metal in that budget.

How many grams a daily wear ring should weigh

For everyday wear, 2 to 4 grams is the sweet spot for most women. Below 2 g, a band gets thin enough to bend out of shape. Above 4 g, it starts to feel heavy on a hand that types, cooks and washes up all day.

There is no single ideal gold ring weight for women. It depends on your finger size and the design. A size 14 band needs more metal than a size 8 band of the same width.

Gold rings under 2 grams and 1 gram designs

Lightweight gold rings for daily wear under 2 grams do exist, and they're popular for stacking. But there's a catch most buyers never hear about. Gold articles weighing less than 2 grams are exempt from mandatory hallmarking in India. BIS lists this exemption in its hallmarking FAQ for jewellers, because marking very small designs is difficult.

That exemption is not a ban. A jeweller can still send a light ring for hallmarking. So ask for a hallmarked piece, even at 1.5 g.

Looking at 1 gram designs specifically? Our one gram gold ring price guide covers them in detail. It also shows how to spot a plated ring sold as "one gram gold".

22K or 18K: which purity suits your ring

Pick 22K for a plain band you want for its gold value and deep yellow colour. Pick 18K for any ring with stones, or a thin band you'll wear every day. That's the short answer.

The numbers explain why. BIS permits six gold purities for hallmarking. Among them, 22K is marked 916, meaning 91.6% gold. Next, 18K is marked 750, meaning 75% gold. The rest is alloy metals like copper and silver.

More alloy means a harder metal. As a result, 18K holds claw settings tighter and keeps its shape better.

Will a 22K ring bend or scratch with daily use?

Yes, more than an 18K ring would. A thin 22K band can slowly turn oval if you grip bags, gym weights or steering wheels. Fine scratches also show up within weeks. They don't reduce the gold weight in any meaningful way, and a jeweller can polish them out.

If you want 22K for daily wear anyway, choose a slightly thicker band. A flat profile around 3 g handles knocks far better than a wire-thin 1.5 g ring.

Daily wear and office rings that last for years

Simple gold ring designs for women for daily use sit low on the finger and carry no loose stones. Every style below follows that rule.

Plain bands and rings without stones

A gold band ring for women is the most practical buy on this list. With no stone to lose, there's nothing to snag on a dupatta. A plain band also resizes easily later.

Want some interest without a stone? Try a band with a hammered finish, a twisted rope edge or light engraving. Each adds texture but keeps the ring smooth.

Office wear gold rings

For office wear, keep the top of the ring under about 1 cm wide. Anything taller catches on keyboards and laptop bags. A small signet ring or a slim geometric band suits a formal outfit. Both still read as real gold, not costume jewellery.

Stackable gold rings

Stackable gold rings for women are two or three thin bands worn together. They let you start with one ring and add more on birthdays or festivals. Each band usually weighs under 2 g, so the hallmark point above applies to every one of them.

One practical tip: buy stacking bands in the same purity. A 22K band next to an 18K band shows a clear colour difference in daylight.

Engagement, cocktail and occasion ring designs

Occasion rings follow different rules. You'll wear them for a few hours, so weight and height matter less than look.

Engagement rings for women

For a gold ring for women for engagement, 18K is usually the better metal. It grips a diamond or a solitaire more securely than 22K. If a stone is part of the plan, browse our diamond ladies' rings alongside plain gold options.

A plain 22K band also works as an engagement ring, especially in families that prefer pure-gold jewellery for ceremonies. Neither choice is wrong.

Gold cocktail rings

A gold cocktail ring for women is the big, eye-catching ring for weddings and pujo evenings. These often weigh 6 to 10 g, which puts them at about ₹1 lakh and up at current rates. Before buying, check the underside. A well-made cocktail ring is often partly hollow or open-backed, which keeps weight and price down.

Daily wear vs occasion gold ring for women

If you can only buy one ring, buy the daily one. You'll wear it hundreds of times. By contrast, an occasion ring might come out five times a year. So spend more of your budget on daily fit and purity, and less on size.

Bengali and traditional gold ring designs

West Bengal has ring styles you won't find on national catalogue pages. Each has its own meaning and occasion.

The Gini ring is a traditional Bengali design. The pola ring echoes the red pola bangle that many married Bengali women wear. For more motifs, our guides to the umbrella ring and the caterpillar ring explain designs and symbolism.

Traditional, temple-style and antique-finish rings tend to run heavier, often 4 g and above. They're also usually made in 22K, so ask for the HUID on every one.

Making charges: what you pay above the gold

Making charges pay for the craftsman's labour and the metal lost while shaping the ring. Shops quote them as a percentage of gold value or as a flat rupee amount per gram. Our worked example above uses 12%, but the real figure varies with design.

A plain band needs less work than an engraved or stone-set ring. That's why detailed designs usually carry higher making charges.

Here's the protective move. Ask every shop for the making charge in rupees, not just a percentage. Rupees are easy to compare across two shops. Percentages on different gold rates are not.

How to check the hallmark on a gold ring

Since June 2021, hallmarking of gold jewellery has been mandatory in phases across India. According to the Press Information Bureau, 361 districts were covered by November 2024. It is not a voluntary extra in those districts.

On a ring, the hallmark sits on the inside of the band. Here's how to check it.

  1. Find the three marks. Inside the band, look for the BIS logo, the purity mark (like 22K916) and the HUID.

  2. Use a magnifier. Ring marks are tiny. Ask the shop for a loupe, or zoom in with your phone camera.

  3. Verify the HUID. Open the free BIS CARE app and use "Verify HUID". The result should show "ring" as the article type and its purity.

  4. Match it to the bill. Your bill should list the net gold weight, purity and hallmarking charge.

If a hallmarked ring later tests below its marked purity, BIS rules entitle you to compensation. The BIS consumer protection page sets it at twice the shortfall value, plus testing charges. You can also get any ring tested at a BIS-recognised assaying and hallmarking centre (A&H centre) for a fee.

Real gold ring vs gold-plated ring

A plated ring has a thin gold layer over brass, copper or silver. It won't carry a genuine HUID that checks out in the BIS CARE app. The price test also works. If a "gold" ring costs far less than its weight times today's rate, it isn't solid gold.

Ring size, fit and free resizing after purchase

To find your ring size, measure the inner diameter of a ring that already fits you. Take it to a store and match it on a ring size chart or sizer. Measure in the evening, because fingers swell slightly by then. Also check the ring slides over your knuckle.

Can a gold ring be resized after wearing it? Usually yes. Plain bands are the easiest to adjust up or down. Rings with stones all round, or tightly patterned designs, may not resize cleanly.

Going up a size usually means adding gold. That changes the weight, so ask for the new weight in writing.

At Biswakarma, we resize rings bought from us free of charge.
